Rice around the world

Over half of the world’s population depends on rice. It is remarkable to see that every country harvest and produces rice in their own way depending on their customs, cultures, traditions and heritage. Rice cultivation is the source of income for millions of households around the globe. Many countries of Asia and Africa are highly dependent on rice as a source of foreign exchange earnings and government revenue.

According to some experts, there are over 40,000 varieties of rice now known to the human beings today. Rice comes in many shapes, sizes and even colors. There are numerous efforts being made on developing many new varieties of rice. Asia is the largest producers of rice in the world, making the total rice production around the world of 91%. This leaves the rest of the world, which only produces the remaining 9% left of the total enormous production of rice.
